I’ve directed at least forty short films, but I kinda lost count somewhere in there. I co-wrote and edited many of them, and on two or three, I even worked the camera.
Here are a few favorites.
Tierheim (The Animal Shelter)
A paleontologist looking for a bone. A scientist looking for a soul. A blind woman looking for her dog. Inspired by German expressionism films such as Nosferatu and The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari, Tierheim was the winner of the Best Film at the Reel Fast 48 Hour Filmmaking Contest and went on to play in film festivals such as the Whistler Film Festival.
“The day had been agreed upon when we would act upon our beliefs, and that day was today. But something got in the way… Love.” A whimsical exploration of love and destruction, inspired by the films of Jean-Luc Godard.
Inspired by a true story of what happens from being in the wrong place in the wrong time, After Shock explores the psychological effects of a terrorist attack. After Shock was winner of a Directors Guild of Canada KickStart Award, and features performances from Matt Baram (Seed, Suicide Squad) and Christian Mena (Rent). It screened at numerous international film festivals, including the Vancouver International Film Festival, and was broadcast on the CBC and Knowledge Network.
I’ve directed over twenty-five fiction and documentary shorts for Vancouver Film School‘s writing department, for a production stream that combines professional production crew with student writers.
The Sounds Of Earth, written by Jennica Harper

Candemonium: Canstruction In Vancouver (Doxa Film Festival)
Bloody Mary: Myth Or Reality
And in the daring to be different category, The Story of What Happened When Rudy Came Home Early From Work and Caught Jack in a Compromising Position, a puppet melodrama shot entirely on the PixelVision 2000 camera by Fisher Price, featuring the puppetry of Jeny Cassady
Another puppet experiment, made for the Osoyoos Celebrity Wine Festival. Co-created by Rob Wenzek, and featuring Rob’s daughter’s toys along with the vocal talents of Fred Ewanuick (Corner Gas) and Mackenzie Gray (Man Of Steel).
Winner – Best Comedy Film at the Sea To Sky Film Festival.
Never try to set up your best friend with your boyfriend’s best friend during Saturday sports day on TV, because you never know what will happen. One Ouija board and some overcooked hors d’ouerves spell trouble for Alexis, Owen, Amy and Cliff.
Healthy Human Specimen
Angus is a desperate man who volunteers to be abducted by aliens… anything to escape the ruins of his life on Earth. He has a close encounter of another kind when he crosses paths with a renegade biologist named Megan and two rather confused poachers. Starring Shaun Smyth (Gemini nominee for the CTV series “The Associates”), Shaun Johnston (“Heartland”, “Jake and the Kid”), Tanis Dolman, and Chris Fassbender.
